Gol Gumbaz - front view

Posted by Vinay (Bangalore, India) on 3 August 2007 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Hi All,
This is my sixth photo taken during my trip to Bijapur & Gulbarga...
The photo depicts the Musuem/Library in the front and Gol-Gumbaz behind it...

This photo is of world famous Gol-Gumbaz... Gol Gumbaz is famous for its largest dome in the world... It is also famous for the whispering gallery.

But one might wonder what is it so famous about the whispering gallery??? Usually, one can hear echoes only seven times, but here in Gol-Gumbaz, it is heard ELEVEN times. Truly a architectural wonder...

The public who visit this place instead of whispering to know how the sound propagates from one place to another and echoes 11 times, they shout at the top of their voices. I really do not know, what enjoyment do they get from shouting like that. Fortunately, when I had been to Bijapur, we visited the place early in the morning and much before huge crowd visited the place... and so could at-least enjoy the wonder. According to me this is also one among the 8 wonders of the world.
